Bitcoin Job Market Update: August 2024 Report
Get the latest insights on the Bitcoin job market! Discover the top companies hiring, popular roles, and more in our exclusive Bitcoin job data report.
In the Bitcoin industry, many assume that most opportunities are reserved for developers or tech-savvy individuals. However, the reality is much broader. Let's dive in and see that ourselves.
Welcome!
Hello, I’m Mindaugas from Bitvocation - a data professional and Bitcoiner. Welcome to the first instalment in our new series, where we’ll be sharing updates and insights from the data we gather, with a particular focus on the Bitcoin job market. While this analysis isn't exhaustive, we believe it’s among the most comprehensive out there. We hope you find it valuable, and if you do, please share it to help spread the word.
At Bitvocation, our mission is simple: to empower Bitcoiners to transition into the Bitcoin industry and help Bitcoin businesses connect with talent from within the community. That’s why we do what we do - we want to help you find your first job in Bitcoin.
One of our core activities at Bitvocation is gathering job postings from various Bitcoin companies and sharing them on our Telegram feed for free. If you appreciate our work, consider supporting us.
How Many Bitcoin Jobs Are Out There?
You might be surprised, but in August alone, we tracked 285 job postings! Yes, we add new companies to track now and then, but that is more than double the amount we had in July. On average, that’s close to 10 new jobs shared daily! Below, we’ve outlined some month-over-month trends.
Who’s Hiring?
Your location might influence the companies you’re familiar with, but you’ve likely heard of major companies like BitGo, Swan, or Kraken. They are established businesses with 100+ employees and might be funded not worse than Fiat industry.
However, you might not be as familiar with “rising stars” like 21bitcoin - a German app for buying Bitcoin, Satlantis - a travel & community social network on Nostr, or Lightning Labs, who develop software that powers the Lightning Network.
Where do companies hire?
Bitcoin companies are often strong advocates for freedom, including the freedom to work remotely from anywhere, but it is not always like that. Some companies prefer to hire locally, while others offer a hybrid approach. In the end, it can be challenging to determine the specifics just from the job posting alone.
While you’re here…
If you're an employer looking to connect with passionate Bitcoin enthusiasts and amplify your job postings, we'd love to collaborate. Whether we've already included your company in our job feed or you are interested in joining our platform, consider supporting Bitvocation through our GeyserFund campaign or through direct sponsorships. Contact us to discuss how we can create a win-win-win!
I’m Not a Developer - Is There a Job for Me?
If you keep up with Bitcoin news, you might have seen the 4th edition of the Bitesize magazine, which featured a great article by Anja, the founder and CEO of Bitvocation. The truth is, there are plenty of jobs for non-developers. In fact, we share more job opportunities for non-tech roles than for developers. Amazing, right?
What Are the Top Roles?
If you’re not a developer, it’s helpful to have a basic understanding of Bitcoin, as roles often focus on Product Management, Sales or Marketing. For software engineers, the transition is easier since software engineering in the Bitcoin world isn’t much different from that in traditional industries.
Duh.. that is pretty obvious, companies are looking for software engineers, so next time we could dive more into the specific of the skills or competencies. Now let’s see how non-developer roles look like.
