From Passion to Paid Gig: Breaking into the Bitcoin Space
In Part 2 of her journey, you'll learn how Bri turned passion into opportunity. Discover the power of networking, seizing chances, and embracing community on your path to a meaningful Bitcoin career.
Landing a job in the Bitcoin industry can be challenging, but Bri's journey showcases various strategies to stand out and build valuable connections that can lead to exciting opportunities. Explore these tips for inspiration on how to take your first steps in the Bitcoin space.
It all began with a podcast. Earlier this year, I was listening to Peter McCormack’s What Bitcoin Did when Rachel Geyer appeared as a guest. Her passion for Bitcoin resonated with me, and she mentioned Les Femmes Orange, a network of women Bitcoiners. Intrigued, I joined their Telegram group, attended meetups, and discovered a vibrant, supportive community.
A podcast that changed everything
That was the moment when my second Bitcoin journey began. The Bitcoin space had changed a lot since 2017, when I first got into Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. There were books we didn't have back then, new podcasts, small and big conferences and women – lots of them! That was the greatest discovery for me. And since my first Les Femmes Orange meetup, which I attended in Munich in January 2023, I haven't missed a single one.
Through this group, I decided to attend my first Bitcoin conference: BTC Prague. Even the journey there was a blast! I packed my car with amazing women from the Femmes Orange group in Munich and we were all excited for our first international Bitcoin event. To make the trip even more special, I booked us an Airbnb in Prague – our Bitcoin women's co-living space!

Real live events: connect, learn, and get inspired
BTC Prague was transformative. Not only did I deepen my understanding of Bitcoin, meet inspiring people and did my first selfie with a VIP on the orange carpet, but I also discovered AmityAge. They run a “Train the trainers” style academy for Bitcoiners who already are or want to become Bitcoin educators. Back home from Prague I signed up for their next Bitcoin Educators Academy which would be in Lugano.
The BEA didn’t just hone my communication and presentation skills – and was by the way super fun; it introduced me to Marco, a fellow participant who beside his day job is a Community Manager at Vexl, a pretty cool peer-to-peer Bitcoin app.
During a casual chat in our BEA Telegram group, Marco mentioned Vexl’s interest in the German-speaking market. I asked if they needed help with translations or content writing. This simple question led to a series of introductions. Marco connected me with Štěpán from Vexl, which resulted in a video call with Lea, their CEO, and Grafton, head of growth. Although we have not yet formalised our collaboration in detail, this conversation was crucial: Lea found out about my writing background and subsequently connected me with Braiins, one of the world's oldest and most renowned bitcoin mining companies.
From networking to major opportunities
Lea’s recommendation opened the door to Braiins. Kristian, their Chief of Propaganda, reached out, and shortly afterwards I had a video call with Martin, who manages their blog, and soon the first blog article I would write for the website was settled.
But it didn’t stop there. At the Plan B Forum in Lugano, which was the third big conference I attended this year, I met Kristian in person during an event where Braiins launched their latest book, Bitcoin: The Ultimate Collateral. Meeting face-to-face solidified our connection, and before I even made it back to Munich, Kristian texted me to ask if I’d be interested in translating the book into German. And yes, of course I wanted to!
I loved the project, which is a collaboration of Braiins and Firefish and which got me in touch with some awesome bitcoin professionals. Also, the book’s message is simply great: “Never sell your bitcoin, live off it”.
This marked my first major Bitcoin project – an opportunity that came from a chain of small but meaningful steps.
Lessons learned: stay curious and keep showing up
Reflecting on my experiences this year, I’ve realized how each step – no matter how small – played a role in shaping my career path in Bitcoin. Here’s what I’ve learned:
Attend events
Conferences and meetups are where the magic happens. They’re opportunities to meet people, discover projects, and grow as a Bitcoiner. Over time, the more events you attend, the more confident you become – even before you land a job in the industry.Build and maintain your network
Networking doesn’t end with an introduction. Stay in touch, share your progress, provide some value and reconnect with people you’ve met. A casual conversation can spark incredible opportunities. And keep in mind: it’s about give and take – on socials and in real life.Take initiative and stay open
Show genuine interest in the Bitcoin space. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or share what you can offer, even if it’s for unpaid opportunities. Each step you take can lead to something greater.Trust the process
Entering the Bitcoin industry isn’t about having a perfect plan. It’s about showing up, staying curious, and letting one step lead to the next. Sometimes, you just need to take the first step and trust that the rest will follow.Surround yourself with supporters
In the Bitcoin community, people support each other like hardly anywhere else. Whether on X, LinkedIn, Nostr or in real life. Take advantage of this and enjoy the power of networking.

Final thoughts
My journey from listening to a podcast to working for a renowned bitcoin company was anything but linear. It was a chain of opportunities, each one building on the last. You never know where a conversation, introduction, or event might lead, so be proactive, stay engaged, and let your passion guide you.
If you’re ready to take that first step, start with what excites you – whether it’s a podcast, following people on social media, visiting a conference or starting a meetup in your home town. The Bitcoin space is full of possibilities, and your next opportunity might be closer than you think.
